Amid discussions at the U.N. Security Council advocating for a ceasefire in Gaza and recent disagreements between the U.S. and Israel, concerns have been raised within American circles regarding Israel’s alleged plans to create uninhabitable zones in parts of Lebanon, similar to what has occurred in the Gaza Strip, as reported by a media outlet.
The United States is taking these reports seriously, striving to avert the realization of such Israeli actions. Efforts have been made over the last six months to prevent Lebanon from becoming a full-scale conflict zone, as per sources cited by al-Akhbar newspaper.
The sources also mentioned the international community’s inability to accept another situation akin to Gaza, even on a smaller scale, emphasizing a global consensus on preventing the escalation of war into Lebanon.
Despite Israel adhering to the red lines set by the U.S. for the most part, with some deviations being addressed, it has also responded to European calls to limit its confrontation with Hezbollah to the current extent.
Hezbollah initiated aggression along the southern border with Israel on October 8, in support of the Palestinians and the Hamas Movement, after Hamas launched a significant attack on southern Israel, leading to a severe conflict.
This has resulted in almost daily skirmishes between Hezbollah and Israel, with a death toll of at least 337 in Lebanon, including both Hezbollah fighters and 63 civilians, and the displacement of tens of thousands from both the southern regions of Lebanon and northern Israel. Amidst this tension, Israel has voiced intentions to conduct military operations against Hezbollah to distance it from the border area.
