In a recent conversation with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized the need to prevent further hostilities in Lebanon. This discussion comes in the context of ongoing clashes between Israel and Hezbollah, as reported by the U.S. State Department.
Blinken highlighted the criticality of taking steps to limit the expansion of the conflict. He specifically mentioned the need for actions to reduce tensions in the West Bank and to prevent further escalation in Lebanon.
Additionally, Blinken reiterated the imperative for Israel to implement all feasible measures to minimize civilian casualties. He also affirmed the United States’ dedication to facilitating concrete progress towards establishing a Palestinian state.
The conflict, which began in October, has resulted in over 140 deaths on the Lebanese side, including numerous Hezbollah fighters and more than a dozen civilians, among whom were three journalists. On the Israeli side, the conflict has claimed the lives of at least four civilians and eight soldiers, as per Israeli authorities.
