Thiago Silva, the Brazilian defender, announced he will be departing from Chelsea at the conclusion of this season, after a four-year tenure with the club. Silva, 39, disclosed his plans on Monday, expressing hope for a future return to Chelsea in a different capacity.
Silva communicated to Chelsea supporters, “Goodbyes are for those that leave and don’t come back. I intend on coming back one day.”
He initially joined Chelsea in 2020 when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain ended, with the intention of staying for only one season. However, after a victorious Champions League campaign at the end of his first season, he continued playing for the club. Silva takes pride in his integration into the Chelsea community, noting that his sons are participants in Chelsea’s youth academy.
“It’s a source of great pride to be a part of the Chelsea family — literally because my sons are here,” Silva remarked. “I hope they can continue their careers here at this victorious club that many players wish to be part of.”
With only five league matches remaining in the season, Chelsea is currently in ninth place following an uneven performance under Mauricio Pochettino, who is in his first year as the team’s coach.
