Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Wednesday emphasized to visiting U.S. mediator Amos Hochstein the importance of urging Israel to stop its attacks and threats. He highlighted that achieving a solution hinges on a ceasefire in Gaza and the enforcement of U.N. Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 1701.
Mikati stated that implementing this resolution is crucial for ensuring stability in southern Lebanon.
In response, Hochstein noted that diplomatic efforts are in progress across various levels and capitals, aiming to achieve the diplomatic solutions advocated by the U.S. and Egyptian presidents, as well as the Qatari emir. These discussions, Hochstein mentioned, would be a central topic in the upcoming meetings in Doha, which are set to last several days.
The U.S. envoy also expressed hope that a ceasefire in Gaza could be reached, which would help prevent further escalation in the south. He reiterated that Resolution 1701 is essential for maintaining stability in the region, according to Mikati’s press office.
Earlier, Mikati informed the cabinet that they are facing crucial opportunities for diplomatic action.
