Lebanon is preparing to file a complaint with the U.N. Security Council against Israel for allegations of interfering with navigation systems and civil aviation safety near Beirut airport. This step is being taken in response to what the Lebanese Foreign Ministry describes as Israel’s intentional actions to jam air and ground navigation systems, affecting the devices responsible for receiving and transmitting signals, since the outbreak of the Gaza conflict in October. The issue has raised concerns, especially after an incident on January 7 where Beirut airport’s departures and arrivals screens were hacked, displaying anti-Hezbollah messages and causing disruptions, including stopped baggage conveyor belts. Lebanon has acknowledged a lack of cybersecurity expertise in dealing with such attacks. The ongoing conflict has resulted in significant casualties on both sides, with Lebanon and Israel suffering losses among both combatants and civilians.
