On Wednesday, the Lebanese Forces Party criticized the Free Patriotic Movement’s leader, Jebran Bassil, accusing him of consistently impeding state progress. This criticism followed Bassil’s strong opposition to the proposed extension of the term of Army Chief General Joseph Aoun, who is set to retire in January.
In a statement, the Lebanese Forces, who are in favor of extending General Aoun’s tenure, mocked Bassil’s perspective, suggesting he perceives Lebanon as being split between his supporters and detractors, and believes in a global conspiracy against him.
The statement further emphasized that Bassil’s policies are frequently a hindrance to the nation’s governance.
Bassil had earlier expressed on Tuesday that the extension of Aoun’s term was “abnormal,” labeling him as a candidate favored by the West and unsuitable for the role. He also accused the Lebanese Forces of backing the extension under international pressure.
