On Sunday, Hezbollah announced it had targeted a building utilized by Israeli troops in the settlement of Shomera, as a retaliatory action against Israeli strikes on civilian homes in southern Lebanon. Additionally, Hezbollah claimed to have destroyed surveillance equipment at the Israeli post of Dovev.
In retaliation, Israel conducted artillery shelling of the southern Lebanese towns of Houla and Mays al-Jabal.
According to Hezbollah, an Israeli airstrike on Saturday in southern Lebanon resulted in the death of three of its fighters and serious injuries to two others in the area of al-Jebbayn.
The group also stated that it had targeted two buildings in northern Israel, in Metula and Shlomi, which were being used by Israeli forces. This action was described as a response to previous Israeli attacks.
Hezbollah further claimed responsibility for attacks on various Israeli targets, including military personnel and surveillance equipment.
The Israeli military confirmed it had targeted a compound in Aita al-Shaab, which it described as housing terrorist activities, and an individual involved in Hezbollah operations near Kfarkela.
The ongoing conflict has escalated since Hamas’ major attack on Israel on October 7, which initiated a war in Gaza. This has led to consistent exchanges of fire across the Lebanese-Israeli border involving the Israeli military and Hezbollah, which is allied with Hamas.
The conflict has resulted in at least 375 deaths in Lebanon, mostly combatants but also including 70 civilians, per AFP data. In northern Israel, the conflict has claimed the lives of 10 soldiers and eight civilians.
Recently, tensions in the region have increased following Iran’s direct drone and missile attack on Israel on April 13. This attack was in retaliation for an Israeli airstrike on April 1 that destroyed Iran’s consulate in Damascus. Iran supports both Hezbollah and Hamas, who are major players in the ongoing regional conflicts.
