The release date for the John Wick franchise’s upcoming spinoff, Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, has been delayed until June 6, 2025. This delay is to accommodate the earlier release of Rupert Sanders’ remake of The Crow, now set for June 7, 2024.
Ballerina’s storyline centers on a young female assassin with a background similar to the Ruska Roma, a prominent organized crime group in the John Wick universe, known for their elite assassin training. The narrative ties closely with the world of John Wick, a character intricately linked to the Ruska Roma’s deadly arts. The cast for Ballerina includes notable names such as Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus, alongside Ian McShane and Keanu Reeves, who reprise their roles from the main franchise.
The film is being crafted under the guidance of director Len Wiseman, with franchise stalwarts Chad Stahelski, Basil Iwanyk, and Erica Lee of Thunder Road producing. Shay Hatten writes the screenplay, drawing from characters created by Derek Kolstad.
Meanwhile, The Crow, set to premiere before Ballerina, stars Bill Skarsgård in a narrative adapted from James O’Barr’s original graphic novel. The plot follows Eric Draven and Shelly Webster, a couple who meet a tragic end, propelling Eric on a vengeful quest against their assailants, a journey that spans the realms of the living and the dead. The Crow features additional talents including Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila, and Jordan Bolger, with Sanders directing and production by Victor Hadida, Molly Hassell, John Jencks, Samuel Hadida, and Edward R. Pressman.
In addition to these titles, Lionsgate has announced a new project directed by Guy Ritchie for a January 17, 2025 release, marking another collaboration with Henry Cavill and Eiza González following The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, expected on April 19, 2024.
