An Israeli official reported to AFP that Israel’s military is preparing a response to Iran’s recent missile attack. The official, who remained unnamed due to restrictions on speaking publicly, did not specify what the response would entail.
Haaretz, a left-leaning newspaper, has cited military sources saying that the response will be substantial. According to these sources, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are planning a significant military strike against Iran, prompted by the missile barrage earlier in the week from Tehran. The paper also noted that further missile attacks from Iran might occur after Israel’s retaliatory action.
Iran had fired approximately 200 missiles towards Israel on October 1, marking its second direct assault in under six months. Israel’s air defense systems intercepted most of these missiles, with only a few hitting military targets and causing minimal damage and no casualties.
This missile launch by Iran was said to be in retaliation for the killing of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah by an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on September 27. Additionally, Iran linked this assault to the death of Ismail Haniyeh, a former leader of Hamas, who was killed in Tehran on July 31. Iran and Hamas have accused Israel of being behind Haniyeh’s assassination, although Israel has not publicly acknowledged these claims.
