Hostilities at the Border Reignite Following Israeli Attacks on Medical Personnel

On Friday, the Israeli military launched attacks on several towns along the southern border of Lebanon, coinciding with heightened tensions due to U.S.-led air raids on Yemen’s Houthi rebels and growing concerns about a possible wider conflict in the region.

The towns targeted by Israeli artillery included Mays al-Jabal, Houla, Dhaira, and Tayr Harfa. These strikes came after Hezbollah, on Thursday, accused Israel of a severe assault that resulted in the deaths of two medics affiliated with them in south Lebanon, calling it a direct attack on their first aid facility.

In retaliation, Hezbollah fired numerous rockets at Kiryat Shmona, an Israeli border town. Lebanon’s health ministry strongly condemned these actions, stating that the attack purposefully aimed at the Islamic Health Committee center, and also affected an ambulance.

Moreover, on the same day, a missile launched by an Israeli warplane hit a civil defense center associated with the Risala Scout group, which has ties to the Hezbollah-aligned Amal movement. This incident, reported by Lebanon’s National News Agency, took place in the southern village of Khiam, where the missile failed to detonate, and those present at the center narrowly escaped harm.

Earlier, on November 5, an Israeli strike targeting two ambulances in south Lebanon injured four first responders from the Risala Scouts.

Since the onset of the conflict between Israel and Hamas on October 7, Hezbollah and Israel have been engaged in almost daily exchanges of fire across their border. This prolonged violence has resulted in 190 deaths in Lebanon, including over 140 Hezbollah fighters and more than 20 civilians, among them three journalists, as per an AFP report. In northern Israel, the conflict has claimed the lives of nine soldiers and at least four civilians, according to Israeli authorities.
