Hezbollah has expressed disapproval of the United States’ strikes in Yemen

Hezbollah has publicly criticized the recent air strikes conducted by the United States and the United Kingdom on Yemen, which are controlled by rebels. These air strikes were a reaction to the Houthi rebels’ attacks on shipping in the Red Sea, resulting in the death of at least five individuals and injuring six others.

In a statement, Hezbollah accused the U.S. of being a direct accomplice in the violence in Gaza and the wider region, on par with Israel. The statement emphasized that the American involvement in the air strikes aligns them closely with the actions of Israel in Gaza.

This stance was echoed by both Russia and Iran, who also denounced the air strikes. Conversely, France pointed the finger at the Houthis for escalating the situation, while China and Saudi Arabia urged caution to prevent further escalation.

Hezbollah’s statement highlighted their view that the U.S.’s actions in Yemen are part of a broader pattern of destructive involvement in the region, comparable to the actions of Israel in Gaza.

The Houthi rebels have a history of targeting ships in the area, with these attacks intensifying amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. The situation worsened following an October 17 attack on a hospital in Gaza, which caused numerous casualties. This event marked a significant escalation, leading to increased militant activities against U.S. bases in Iraq and Syria and attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea. These incidents have not only damaged commercial vessels but also forced shipping companies to reroute around the Cape of Good Hope.

On a Tuesday prior to the air strikes, the Houthis launched their most extensive attack to date, employing 18 one-way attack drones, anti-ship cruise missiles, and an anti-ship ballistic missile against a variety of international commercial and military ships in the Red Sea.

In retaliation for these attacks, the U.S. and U.K. carried out strikes targeting the Houthi’s missile, radar, and drone capabilities on the following Friday.
