On Monday, an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon severely injured a Hezbollah official by targeting his vehicle, according to a Lebanese security source speaking to AFP.
The ongoing conflict, which erupted on October 7 between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, has seen frequent exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, an ally of Hamas.
The security source disclosed that the airstrike specifically aimed at a Hezbollah official in Bint Jbeil, leaving him gravely wounded. Additionally, Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that a drone operated by Israel struck a vehicle close to a hospital in the same town, located near Lebanon’s southern boundary with Israel.
An AFP correspondent at the scene observed the attacked vehicle, noting significant damage and a roof that had been penetrated.
This incident is part of a series of recent Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon that have resulted in injuries to members of Lebanese and Palestinian militant groups.
Just days before, on Saturday, Bassel Saleh, a high-ranking officer of Hamas, narrowly escaped an Israeli airstrike on his vehicle in the border town of Hula, which resulted in two fatalities, as stated by security sources. Another strike on Thursday in Nabatiyeh, a southern city, left a Hezbollah commander seriously wounded, prompting the group to retaliate with rocket fire into northern Israel.
According to reports from AFP and NNA journalists, Israeli forces conducted airstrikes on several southern Lebanese villages on Monday.
Since the commencement of the war between Israel and Hamas, cross-border attacks have caused the deaths of at least 231 individuals in Lebanon, including both Hezbollah fighters and 30 civilians, per an AFP count. On the Israeli side, the conflict has claimed the lives of nine soldiers and six civilians, as reported by the Israeli military.
