Report: Abdollahian Urges Restraint Among Lebanon Allies

During his visit to Lebanon, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian expressed Tehran’s involvement in global and regional efforts to address the crisis initiated by Israeli military actions in the Gaza Strip, according to a report. He emphasized the importance of pursuing a resolution that begins with ceasing Israeli hostilities in Gaza. A notable parliamentary source shared with Asharq al-Awsat newspaper that Amir-Abdollahian advocated for a settlement to halt the violence, noting that communication between Tehran and Washington has been escalating in efforts to prevent the conflict from widening.

The discussions are being facilitated by the Sultanate of Oman, with the involvement of Switzerland’s ambassador to Iran and occasionally, officials from Qatar.

Amir-Abdollahian also urged for moderation to counteract Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s preference for heightened tensions in the South, aiming to dissuade further conflict escalation, particularly in the North. The report by Asharq al-Awsat further highlighted Amir-Abdollahian’s call for the implementation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701, which was instrumental in concluding the 2006 conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
