Samir Geagea, the leader of the Lebanese Forces, has criticized Hezbollah for endangering Lebanon and its citizens by attacking northern Israel in solidarity with Gaza. During a discussion with the Russian Ambassador to Beirut on Friday, Geagea questioned the benefit of Hezbollah’s actions for the Palestinians in Gaza, given the already dire situation there.
He expressed concern that Hezbollah’s offensive actions only serve to put Lebanon and its inhabitants at risk of destruction and death. Geagea emphasized the importance of enforcing U.N. Resolution 1701 to protect Lebanon from the potential outbreak of a major conflict along its southern frontier. This comes against the backdrop of ongoing hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel, marked by almost daily exchanges of fire since the commencement of the Israel-Hamas conflict on October 7.
