Israeli FM urges world to pressure Hezbollah for south withdrawal

During a Security Conference in Munich, Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz urged the international community to exert pressure on Iran and Hezbollah to vacate South Lebanon, highlighting the necessity to enforce U.N. resolution 1701. Katz emphasized the possibility of Israel taking action to displace Hezbollah from the border region if diplomatic efforts to diminish tensions prove unsuccessful.

In response, Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, also speaking at the conference, affirmed Lebanon’s dedication to adhering to all U.N. resolutions. He called on Israel to respect these resolutions, cease its hostilities in the South, and retreat from all Lebanese territories it currently occupies.

Mikati raised concerns regarding the international community’s inaction towards ongoing Israeli hostilities against Lebanon and denounced the killing and targeting of innocent civilians as a “crime against humanity.”
