State Department: Duration of Israel’s Ground Incursions in Lebanon Uncertain

The U.S. has engaged in talks with Israel regarding the aftermath of its military operations in Lebanon, though the duration of these activities remains uncertain, the State Department disclosed.

State Department spokesperson Matt Miller expressed uncertainty about the future developments. “I’m not going to prejudge what’s going to happen. We don’t know what’s going to happen. Dare I say, the Israelis probably don’t know what’s going to happen at this point,” Miller stated. He emphasized that the U.S. would continue to monitor the situation closely and assess it as it evolves.

Miller declined to comment on whether Israel has a definitive strategy for ending the conflict in the north, which has seen increased incursions and strikes in Beirut targeting Hezbollah. “The Israelis will have to speak to that question, not me,” he remarked.

Despite the lack of clear information from U.S. officials regarding the specifics of Israel’s military strategy against Hezbollah, Miller affirmed strong U.S. support for Israel’s targeted actions against the militant group’s infrastructure. He highlighted the U.S. desire for a diplomatic solution while also supporting efforts to weaken Hezbollah’s military capabilities.
