Australian cricketer David Warner, who recently retired from Test cricket following a 3-0 series victory over Pakistan, is excited about his upcoming stint as a commentator. Warner shared his plans after the conclusion of the third Test in Sydney, his hometown. He also expressed a strong desire to participate in the Big Bash League (BBL), Australia’s domestic T20 tournament.
Warner, who is looking forward to joining the Fox commentary team for next year’s Test series against India, is currently a player for the Sydney Sixers in the BBL. He is expected to play in their final three regular-season games, provided his inclusion doesn’t disrupt the team’s dynamics.
Regarding his future in the BBL, Warner said, “I definitely am keen to pursue playing Big Bash next year. There’s going to be conversations behind the scenes to allow me to do that.” He plans to balance his playing commitments with his new role in commentary.
Although Warner has stepped back from Tests and ODIs, he left the possibility open for a return in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025 if needed. He also confirmed that he intends to conclude his international career after the upcoming T20 World Cup in June, marking the end of his cricketing journey.
Reflecting on his career, Warner stated, “That was my last hurrah, the Twenty20s. I started my career in Twenty20 cricket and will finish my career in Twenty20 cricket. Think it’s fitting. I really enjoy the game but most importantly I want to win another World Cup for Australia.”
