On Monday, China announced its backing for a freshly proposed resolution at the U.N. Security Council, calling for an “immediate” halt to the conflict in Gaza. This support comes following China and Russia’s rejection of a previous proposal by the United States.
“China is in favor of the new draft resolution and appreciates the efforts of Algeria and other Arab nations in drafting it,” stated Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry. He further expressed China’s desire for the Security Council to approve the resolution promptly, aiming to convey a clear message for ending the hostilities.
