The British PM has stated that the strikes on the Houthi rebels were both targeted and proportionate

During a visit to Ukraine, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak spoke out against the recent actions of Houthi rebels, stating their attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea cannot go unpunished. He emphasized the significant rise in Houthi assaults over the past month, highlighting the risks these pose to innocent lives, the global economy, and regional stability.

Sunak asserted that such behavior must not continue and supported the recent U.S. and British overnight strikes as being well-measured and focused. The strikes, which involved British Typhoon jets operating from a base in Cyprus, aimed to weaken and disrupt the Houthis’ capacity to threaten maritime safety in the Red Sea.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the strikes were effective and stressed the importance of holding the Houthis accountable for their actions. He highlighted the collaboration with allies in deciding to undertake these military actions.

Sunak also mentioned his plans to provide a detailed update to Parliament regarding the strikes on the following Monday.
