Bou Saab emphasized that war is not a viable solution

Deputy Speaker Elias Bou Saab relayed details to Speaker Nabih Berri about his recent meeting in Rome with U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein. Bou Saab explained that Berri was aware of the visit beforehand and that the Rome discussion served as a precursor for upcoming Beirut meetings with Hochstein. Post-meeting in Ain el-Tineh, Bou Saab expressed hope that Hochstein’s visit would contribute to Lebanon’s much-needed stability.

Bou Saab addressed Israel directly, emphasizing that war is not a solution to return settlers to their communities. He warned that war could lead to further displacement of settlers, potentially to more remote locations, and might prolong the issue for months or even years. Bou Saab underscored the importance of a diplomatic approach, stating that both sides aim for the return of villagers to their border villages and farms, and that no solution could be found outside diplomatic channels and efforts.

The ongoing cross-border conflict has resulted in over 185 deaths in Lebanon, including more than 140 Hezbollah fighters and over 20 civilians, with three journalists among them. In northern Israel, the conflict has claimed the lives of nine soldiers and at least four civilians, as per Israeli reports. Additionally, the fighting has forced tens of thousands of residents on both sides of the border to flee their homes.
