Parliamentary discussions between Speaker Nabih Berri and Free Patriotic Movement leader Jebran Bassil have been facilitated through a mutual intermediary, according to political insiders. Amid the ongoing impasse over the presidential election, Berri has emphasized the importance of dialogue as the key to overcoming the stalemate following Michel Aoun’s term conclusion in October 2022.

Sources relayed to al-Akhbar newspaper that messages regarding the proposed dialogue were exchanged between Berri and Bassil, with Berri urging Bassil to engage in discussions. Bassil has shown openness to the dialogue, provided that it leads to the initiation of continuous election sessions.

This development was hinted at by Bassil in recent statements where he expressed a positive stance towards dialogue and negotiations, subtly acknowledging the ongoing interactions with Berri’s office, as shared by other political sources with the newspaper.
