Highlights: Bayern Triumphs Over Wolfsburg, Gifts Kompany Winning Bundesliga Debut

A late goal from Serge Gnabry secured a 3-2 victory for Bayern Munich over VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday, giving their new coach Vincent Kompany a winning debut.

Wolfsburg started the match energetically, but it was Bayern who capitalized on their chances in the first half. Frenchman Sacha Boey made a brilliant run down the right wing, setting up Jamal Musiala for an easy finish to give Bayern the lead.

However, Bayern’s second half began poorly when they conceded a penalty after Tiago Tomas was fouled by Boey. Lovro Majer converted the penalty, leveling the score. Wolfsburg continued to pressure Bayern’s defense, and in the 55th minute, Patrick Wimmer assisted Majer for his second goal, putting Wolfsburg ahead.

Bayern equalized when Wolfsburg’s Jakub Kaminski accidentally scored an own goal. Then, in the 82nd minute, Gnabry, assisted by Harry Kane, fired a shot into the corner of the net, securing all three points for the Bavarians.

“We are very pleased and will gladly take the win. It’s a big boost for our morale and confidence,” Gnabry commented. “It was a tough Sunday afternoon. The equalizer right after halftime really shook us, and going down 2-1 made it even more challenging. But ultimately, we were rewarded with a 3-2 victory.”

Bayern, with Harry Kane and new signing Michael Olise showing promise, created numerous scoring opportunities, but Wolfsburg’s goalkeeper, Kamil Grabara, made several outstanding saves to keep his team in the game.

Thomas Müller, who tied a club record with his 709th competitive appearance for Bayern, was pivotal after coming on as a substitute in the 65th minute, helping to turn the tide in Bayern’s favor.

After a disappointing third-place finish last season, Bayern appointed former Burnley manager Vincent Kompany to replace Thomas Tuchel, and this victory marks a strong start for him at the helm.

Wolfsburg’s coach, Ralph Hasenhuettl, expressed pride in his team’s spirited performance. “We had several chances in the second half and have shown significant improvement in recent months. We played fantastically after the break,” Hasenhuettl said. “What we could have done better was to score a third goal. It’s difficult to defend against Bayern entirely, but we fought hard in every duel.”
