Highlights: Endrick Nets Goal in La Liga Debut, Real Wins

Spanish champions Real Madrid secured a 3-0 victory over Real Valladolid in La Liga on Sunday, with Kylian Mbappé making his Santiago Bernabéu debut but unable to find the back of the net.

Later that day, Atlético Madrid also claimed a comfortable 3-0 win against Girona, last season’s surprise package.

Real Madrid’s French striker, Mbappé, played his first home game in a Los Blancos shirt but was largely kept at bay by Valladolid’s defense.

Fede Valverde opened the scoring for Madrid 50 minutes into the game, and substitutes Brahim Díaz and debutant Endrick added late goals to seal the victory.

Without the injured Jude Bellingham, Madrid struggled to create chances in the first half but did enough after the break to secure their first win of the season, following an opening draw at Real Mallorca.

Despite still finding their rhythm in attack, Carlo Ancelotti’s side remains two points behind rivals Barcelona, who won against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.

“We were too slow in the first half, but in the second half, we were much more active, with more movement and quicker passing,” Ancelotti commented.

Real Valladolid aimed to frustrate the champions in the summer heat, and they succeeded for the first 45 minutes.

Madrid emerged with more urgency after the break, and Valverde broke the deadlock with a powerful low free-kick, aided by a deflection.

Mbappé missed a golden opportunity to score when Vinicius Junior set him up, but Estonian goalkeeper Karl Hein made a strong save.

The French captain had another chance on a counter-attack but shot wide before being substituted by 18-year-old Brazilian forward Endrick.

Mbappé, who scored on his debut in the UEFA Super Cup, has yet to find the net in his first two La Liga matches.

“He’s an exceptional forward, very fast, with great off-the-ball movement, and he created three or four chances with his runs,” Ancelotti said. “He will score goals in this position, just like he always does. I don’t think he needs to play on the left—he will find the goals playing centrally.”

Díaz secured the win for Madrid with a well-executed lobbed finish and then set up Endrick, who drilled home at the near post to mark his first appearance for the club in style.

“(Endrick) has a lot of potential, and his goal showed his quality,” added Ancelotti. “He’s a center-forward who thrives in the box, and he’s very dangerous in tight spaces.”

Madrid signed Endrick from Palmeiras in 2022, but he only joined this summer after reaching the eligible age to make the move.
