French Open: Carlos Alcaraz defeats Jannik Sinner in marathon match to reach first final

Carlos Alcaraz of Spain has moved closer to achieving a career Grand Slam after defeating Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner in an epic semifinal at the French Open. The match, which took place on Friday, June 7, lasted over four hours and saw Alcaraz triumph with scores of 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, securing his spot in the final. He will compete against either Casper Ruud or Alexander Zverev in Sunday’s final.

### Alcaraz Reaches His First French Open Final
The semifinal between Alcaraz and Sinner was one of the most thrilling encounters of this year’s French Open. Both players had only dropped two sets each before this match. Sinner started strong, breaking Alcaraz’s serve three times to win the first set 6-2. However, Alcaraz, the reigning Wimbledon champion, fought back to claim the second set 6-3.

The third set saw Sinner regain control with a crucial break, winning it 6-3 and moving just one set away from reaching another Grand Slam final, having previously defeated Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open semifinals in January.

Alcaraz, however, was resilient. He broke Sinner’s serve when the Italian was serving to stay in the fourth set at 5-4, forcing a decisive fifth set. In the final set, Alcaraz dominated, securing his victory and advancing to his first French Open final.

### Spain’s Legacy Continues
This victory ensures that Spain remains represented in the French Open final, even in the absence of Rafael Nadal, who was knocked out in the first round by Alexander Zverev. Zverev, who is also the defending Olympic champion, faces Casper Ruud in the other semifinal, with the winner set to challenge Alcaraz in the final.

Alcaraz’s remarkable performance not only highlights his potential to complete a career Grand Slam but also continues Spain’s storied legacy in tennis, especially at the French Open.
