Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has finalized his squad for Euro 2024, making several notable exclusions. Barcelona’s teenage defender Pau Cubarsi, Atletico Madrid’s versatile midfielder Marcos Llorente, and Girona playmaker Aleix Garcia were all cut from the team on Friday.
Initially naming a 29-man provisional list in May, de la Fuente trimmed it down to the final 26 players just a week before the tournament begins in Germany.
Cubarsi, who gained attention with Barcelona in the latter part of the season and made his international debut in a friendly against Colombia in March, did not make the final cut. Llorente and Garcia also missed out.
However, Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal, at 16 years old, remains in the squad alongside club teammate Fermin Lopez. Additionally, Real Betis’s Ayoze Perez and Athletic Bilbao defender Dani Vivian retained their spots, despite speculation they might not make the final list.
Spain is set to face Northern Ireland in a final warm-up match on Saturday, before their Euro 2024 opener against Croatia on June 15.
