Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi, in his Sunday sermon, expressed sorrow over the cessation of the ceasefire in Gaza. He highlighted the plight of innocent people who are suffering the consequences of the renewed conflict, questioning the purpose of a humanitarian truce that only leads to more intense warfare.
Al-Rahi stressed that in Lebanon, there is no desire for the conflict to extend to the southern regions, affecting the innocent residents there. He voiced concern about the potential uncontrollable spread of the war, its catastrophic impact in terms of human lives lost and destruction caused, and prayed for peace to prevail.
The patriarch firmly stated that the Lebanese people should not be forced to endure the repercussions of a war in which they are not involved.
Additionally, al-Rahi criticized the ongoing political impasse in Lebanon, specifically the failure to elect a president and the consequent shutdown of the presidential palace. He condemned these actions as a blatant crime that is eroding state institutions and public administrations, fostering chaos and corruption, and damaging Lebanon’s reputation as a civilized nation.
