Lebanon Arrests Two Syrians Suspected of Spying for Israel

The Lebanese Army announced on Wednesday the arrest of two Syrians suspected of being recruited to spy for Israel, as Israel continues its military strikes on Hezbollah targets within Lebanon.

According to a statement shared on social network X by Lebanese army intelligence, the two Syrians were apprehended for “photographing various locations” and documenting the aftermath of Israeli airstrikes. The arrests were made as part of ongoing efforts to monitor and track down Israeli spy networks and agents within the country.

The statement further explained that the two individuals had also recorded “search and rescue operations and the recovery of bodies” at sites hit by Israeli airstrikes. The pair were reportedly recruited through social media, and the case is now under investigation by judicial authorities.

Israel has been carrying out air raids in Lebanon for more than two weeks, targeting Hezbollah commanders and their munitions. These strikes, which began on September 23, have resulted in over 1,200 deaths, according to an AFP count based on official sources.

Lebanon is still technically at war with Israel, and any contact or travel between Lebanese citizens and Israel is strictly prohibited. In recent weeks, tensions have heightened following Israeli strikes that killed several senior Hezbollah commanders, including their leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.

Over the years, Lebanese security forces have arrested numerous individuals on suspicion of collaborating with Israel, with some receiving prison sentences of up to 25 years.
