Xi urges Blinken: US, China to be ‘partners, not rivals’

During a meeting with U.S. top diplomat Antony Blinken, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of the United States and China being “partners, not rivals.” He acknowledged that there are several unresolved issues between the two nations but also noted potential for improvement in their relationship.

According to state broadcaster CCTV, Xi expressed a desire for the U.S. to adopt a more positive stance towards China’s development. He suggested that resolving this fundamental issue could stabilize and enhance bilateral relations, allowing them to progress.

Blinken’s discussions with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, lasted over five hours and were described by the U.S. diplomat as “extensive and constructive.” However, during these talks, Wang Yi cautioned that continued pressure from the U.S. might lead to a “downward spiral” in relations between the two countries.
