What’s driving Jay Powell’s push to lower interest rates in September?

Key characters such as Mickey Mouse, Cinderella, Snow White, and Captain Hook have been excluded.

“These workers are on the front lines of the guest experience; they’re the individuals who create lifelong memories when your kids hug a character or when your family watches a parade roll by the castle,” said Kate Shindle, President of the Actors’ Equity Association, in a statement. “The next step will be to work with them on improving health and safety, wages, benefits, working conditions, and job security.”

The labor relations board is expected to certify the results next week, after which contract negotiations with The Walt Disney Company will begin. Equity noted that while the length of the bargaining process is uncertain, Disney has been “relatively cooperative throughout this process.”

### Minnesota Lawmakers Reach Minimum Pay Deal for Uber and Lyft Drivers

Minnesota officials have reached an agreement with rideshare companies Uber and Lyft to establish minimum wage standards for drivers, lawmakers announced Saturday night.

This agreement concludes nearly a year of negotiations between Democratic state officials and the two companies, which had threatened to withdraw their operations from Minnesota over a proposed Minneapolis ordinance aimed at enhancing worker protections for rideshare drivers.

The ordinance, initially adopted in August 2023, was part of a broader effort to provide more comprehensive benefits to gig workers on platforms like DoorDash, Instacart, Uber, and Lyft. It required that drivers be paid at least $1.40 per mile and $0.51 per minute.

The rule was delayed after Lyft and Uber warned they would exit Minneapolis. State lawmakers focused on reaching a compromise with the companies before a July 1 deadline.

Under the new agreement, the statewide minimum wage for rideshare drivers will be $1.28 per mile and $0.31 per minute, which will override the higher rate proposed by the Minneapolis City Council.

“When you take it as a blended rate, that results in a 20% increase in pay for drivers in the state of Minnesota,” said Democratic House Majority Leader Jamie Long on Saturday night.
