Vinicius Jr scored a hat-trick to lead Real Madrid to a much-needed 4-0 victory over Osasuna on Saturday, ending a two-game winless streak for the La Liga champions. Following surprising losses to Barcelona and AC Milan, marking their first consecutive home defeats in over three years, Real Madrid encountered early setbacks when forward Rodrygo and defender Eder Militao left the game due to injuries.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti introduced Brahim Diaz and academy defender Raul Asencio to the lineup. The team maintained composure, guided by an outstanding performance from Vinicius. The Brazilian opened the scoring in the 34th minute, receiving a pass from Jude Bellingham, slipping past the offside trap, and firing a powerful shot past Osasuna’s goalkeeper Sergio Herrera.
Bellingham, who had yet to score this season, added to the tally with an impressive lob over Herrera just eight minutes later, increasing Real Madrid’s lead. Although Lucas Vazquez, filling in as right-back, was also forced off due to injury, Vinicius kept up the momentum. In the 61st minute, he chased down a long pass from goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, skillfully maneuvered around Herrera, and calmly slotted the ball into an open goal.
Minutes later, Diaz intercepted a distracted defender’s pass near the box, setting up Vinicius for his third goal, sealing the victory with his second hat-trick in just four games. Vinicius now sits second in the La Liga top-scorer race, with eight goals in 12 matches, trailing Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski by six goals.
The win boosted Real Madrid to second place with 27 points, six points behind Barcelona, while Osasuna remain in fifth place with 21 points.
Reflecting on the match, Diaz, who recently returned from a thigh injury, expressed sympathy for his injured teammates. “It’s heartbreaking to see them suffer,” he shared with Real Madrid TV. Diaz added, “We delivered a solid performance, and this win was essential. Now we need to keep up this level because we have the talent to do so.”
