Uttar Pradesh police harness AI tool for crime investigations

In a novel application of artificial intelligence technology to criminal investigations, the Uttar Pradesh police will implement an AI-powered tool called Crime GPT, developed as part of Staqu’s Trinetra application. Trinetra is celebrated for its precise facial recognition and audio analysis capabilities, essential for tracking and identifying criminals.

Crime GPT introduces a range of advanced features to law enforcement efforts, such as enhanced facial recognition, identification of speakers, voice analysis, and profiling of criminal gangs.

Staqu Technologies’ co-founder and CEO, Atul Rai, highlighted that Crime GPT offers law enforcement agencies the ability to tap into a digital criminal database, making it easier to conduct focused searches. The tool allows for the retrieval of specific information efficiently, accommodating both text and voice-based queries.

This AI tool extends beyond traditional search functions. For instance, police officers can quickly obtain detailed criminal records of individuals over a chosen period, thanks to Crime GPT’s ability to access and analyze data from its comprehensive database promptly.

Staqu’s collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Police has already yielded notable achievements, including the creation of a digital archive that contains records of over 900,000 criminals.

Prashant Kumar, the Director General of Police (DGP) in Uttar Pradesh, highlighted the significant impact of Crime GPT on law enforcement workflows. He noted that the tool’s swift information processing capabilities would substantially benefit criminal investigations by simplifying procedures and expediting the resolution of cases.
