The United Nations has described the recommencement of hostilities in Gaza as ‘catastrophic’

Volker Turk, the United Nations human rights chief, has expressed grave concerns about the renewed conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, describing the situation as “catastrophic” and beyond the point of crisis. In his statement, he urgently called on all parties involved, as well as states with influence over them, to intensify their efforts to establish an immediate ceasefire, citing both humanitarian and human rights reasons for this appeal.
