UN Chief Demands ‘Immediate’ Gaza Ceasefire

On Monday, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urgently called for an immediate stop to hostilities in the Gaza Strip, citing the conflict between Israel and Hamas has now surpassed 100 days.

During a press conference in New York, Guterres emphasized the critical need for a humanitarian ceasefire. He stressed that such a pause in the fighting is necessary to ensure that adequate aid reaches those in need, to facilitate the release of hostages, and to prevent the conflict from escalating further. Guterres warned that the longer the Gaza conflict persists, the higher the likelihood of a major escalation and potential miscalculations.
