Palestinian officials reported that two individuals were killed in an Israeli airstrike in the occupied West Bank on Saturday, with the Israeli military stating that the strike targeted a “terrorist cell” in the Jenin area.
According to the Palestinian health ministry, “two bodies were transferred to Jenin public hospital after Israeli forces bombed a car in the city center.”
The official Palestinian news agency, Wafa, mentioned that the strike was conducted by an “Israeli drone.”
The Israeli military confirmed in a statement that the airstrike was aimed at a “terrorist cell in the Jenin area.”
Videos shared online showed a vehicle engulfed in flames on a street, with images depicting a crowd gathering around the burnt car as rescue workers attempted to open the doors.
“There are dead people in the car,” one man shouted as a stretcher was brought forward.
Since the unprecedented Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, violence in the West Bank, a Palestinian territory occupied by Israel since 1967 and geographically separated from Gaza, has intensified.
Since October 7, at least 635 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli troops or settlers, according to an AFP tally based on official Palestinian figures. During the same period, at least 18 Israelis, including soldiers, have been killed in Palestinian attacks, according to Israeli official statistics.
