Tuchel teases Premier League comeback, eyes potential club

Thomas Tuchel, the departing Bayern Munich manager, has hinted at a possible return to the Premier League, expressing his fondness for his time in England. Tuchel will manage his final game for Bayern against Real Madrid in the Champions League at Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, May 8. As the summer approaches, Tuchel will be available as a free agent, following Bayern’s announcement of his upcoming departure.

Speaking about a potential return to the Premier League, Tuchel was coy, telling TNT Sports, “I’d rather not answer… but it is no secret that I loved it at Chelsea, I loved it in England and I loved it in the Premier League for sure.” He described his tenure in England as “a very, very special time.”

Tuchel’s exit from Chelsea came in September 2022 when he was replaced by Graham Potter after leading the team to several cup finals. He quickly returned to management with Bayern Munich in March 2023. However, his time at Bayern was marred by a series of poor results and conflicts with players, leading to an announcement in February that he would leave the club after falling out of contention for the Bundesliga title and being eliminated from the DFB Pokal.

As for his next move, Tuchel’s reputation and desire for success make him a viable candidate for leading Premier League clubs. Currently, Liverpool is the only team openly seeking a new manager. While Manchester United might consider a change in management, their current manager Erik ten Hag’s position is not as precarious as Mauricio Pochettino’s and Ange Postecoglou’s, who are both secure in their roles. Newcastle United could be a potential destination for Tuchel, though Eddie Howe is expected to remain in his position, leaving few options for Tuchel’s return to English football.

The future is uncertain for the German coach, but his track record ensures he remains a highly sought-after figure in football management. His value could further increase if he leads Bayern Munich to a Champions League victory before his departure.
