The move comes in response to what Trump described as dangerous and inflammatory remarks from Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s former president and the current deputy chairman of the country’s Security Council.

A Show of Strength Amid Heated Exchanges

Trump revealed the decision in a post on Truth Social, citing what he called “highly provocative statements” made by Medvedev. The president said the deployment is a precautionary measure in case the Russian official’s comments carry intent beyond mere bluster.

“Words are very important and can often lead to unintended consequences,” Trump wrote. “I hope this will not be one of those instances.” His remarks highlighted the seriousness with which his administration is treating the verbal back-and-forth with the Kremlin.

In a follow-up jab, Medvedev mocked Trump’s reaction to his comments, suggesting that if a few words could trigger such a “jittery” response, then Russia’s position must be justified.
