Over a dozen nations have declared a halt to their contributions to UNRWA, the principal United Nations agency for Palestinian relief. This decision follows claims that 12 employees of the agency were implicated in the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7. In response to these allegations, UNRWA has terminated several of its staff members.
Key donors, including the United States, have frozen their financial support to UNRWA, which is a significant employer in Gaza with around 13,000 staff, at a time when Gaza faces a worsening humanitarian crisis.
The countries that have suspended their aid are:
– United States
– Canada
– Italy
– Germany
– Switzerland
– Netherlands
– Australia
– United Kingdom
– Finland
– France
– Japan
– Austria
– Romania
On the other hand, some countries have chosen to continue their support:
– Ireland
– Norway
– Turkey
– Luxembourg
– Spain
