Watch: The Mandalorian and Grogu Movie First Teaser

The galaxy’s most beloved bounty hunter and his pint-sized apprentice are making their way from Disney+ to theaters. Lucasfilm has unveiled the first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, offering fans a thrilling preview of the franchise’s next cinematic chapter.

Din Djarin and Grogu Return to Defend the Galaxy

Directed by Jon Favreau and co-written with longtime creative partner Dave Filoni, the film continues the adventures of Din Djarin (played by Pedro Pascal) and Grogu, affectionately known by fans as “Baby Yoda.”

Set after the fall of the Empire, the story follows the fragile peace maintained by the New Republic. With Imperial warlords still scattered across the galaxy, Din and Grogu are enlisted to protect the hard-won freedom of the Rebellion. Lucasfilm’s synopsis highlights their role as guardians of hope, blending high-stakes action with the intimate bond between warrior and apprentice that made the Disney+ series a global hit.

Familiar Favorites and New Characters

The teaser showcases a mix of iconic Star Wars personalities and exciting newcomers. Sigourney Weaver joins the cast as a commanding New Republic officer, while Jeremy Allen White portrays Rotta the Hutt, heir to Jabba’s criminal empire. Fans will also see Jonny Coyne reprising his role as an Imperial warlord, signaling that remnants of the Empire remain a formidable threat.

Perhaps most exciting for longtime fans, the trailer teases the return of Zeb Orrelios, the fan-favorite from Star Wars Rebels, once again voiced by Steve Blum.

Star Wars Returns to Theaters

This marks the first Star Wars feature film since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, signaling a revival of the franchise’s theatrical legacy. Favreau emphasized that the film is designed to honor devoted fans while also inviting a younger audience—drawn especially to Grogu’s widespread popularity—into theaters for the first time.

“We want this to feel both epic in scale and deeply emotional,” Favreau said in a recent interview, noting that Grogu’s journey is central to the film’s heart.

Produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, Ian Bryce, and Favreau himself, the film also brings back Ludwig Göransson, the award-winning composer behind the iconic Mandalorian theme. His return promises to deliver a soundtrack as memorable as the visuals on screen.

Release Date and What’s Next for Star Wars

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to premiere exclusively in U.S. theaters on May 22, 2026, with IMAX screenings confirmed. The film is expected to launch a new slate of theatrical projects for the franchise. Among these is Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter, currently slated for 2027, which will continue to expand the galaxy far, far away on the big screen.
