Breaking: Thailand Deploys Fighter Jets as Border Clashes Erupt with Cambodia

Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia have sharply intensified following a cross-border military confrontation that saw Thai fighter jets strike Cambodian military installations. The strikes mark one of the most serious escalations between the neighboring Southeast Asian nations in recent years, raising fears of a broader regional conflict.

The aerial attack was launched just one day after a Thai soldier was severely injured by a landmine near the disputed border area—an incident that further soured relations already strained by longstanding territorial disagreements.

Thai Military Confirms Targeted Airstrikes

Thailand’s 2nd Regional Army Command, based in the northeastern part of the country, announced the airstrike operation via a Facebook post. According to the statement, F-16 fighter jets were dispatched to strike Cambodian military positions, resulting in what Thai officials claimed was the destruction of two regional military command posts on the Cambodian side.

Deputy Army Spokesperson Col. Richa Suksuwanont emphasized that the strikes were “exclusively aimed at military infrastructure,” adding that efforts were made to avoid civilian casualties.

As of now, Cambodian authorities have not issued a formal response or provided independent confirmation of the airstrike’s impact.

Clashes and Civilian Displacement Along the Border

Earlier on Thursday, reports of direct clashes between Thai and Cambodian troops began to emerge from the contested border zone. Military officials from both sides acknowledged that exchanges of fire had taken place, though details remain limited.

The fighting has already taken a toll on civilians in the area. Thai local authorities confirmed that several non-combatants were injured during the skirmishes. In response, nearby villages on the Thai side of the border have begun evacuating residents as a precautionary measure, with fears of further hostilities looming.
