Texas Floods: 23 Girls Missing from Mystic Camp After Deadly Storm

A catastrophic flash flood struck Camp Mystic, a Christian girls’ summer camp in Kerr County, Texas, on the night of July 4, 2025, resulting in at least 27 fatalities, including nine children, and leaving 23 campers unaccounted for. The Guadalupe River surged by 26 feet in just 45 minutes, inundating the camp and surrounding areas.

Rescue operations are ongoing, with over 1,000 personnel deployed, including helicopters, boats, and drones. Approximately 850 individuals have been rescued so far. The flood was triggered by torrential rains, with some areas receiving up to 15 inches of precipitation, equivalent to half the region’s annual rainfall.

Despite prior flood warnings, the intensity of the storm overwhelmed existing preparedness measures. Federal and state officials, including Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, are assisting in the response. President Donald Trump expressed condolences and affirmed federal support for the affected communities.

The area, known for its susceptibility to flash floods due to its geography, remains under threat as heavy rains continue. The community is grappling with the devastation, and efforts are focused on locating the missing and providing aid to survivors.
