Taylor Swift has eclipsed the legendary Elvis Presley’s record for the most weeks at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 as a soloist. This milestone was reached with the release of her re-recorded album “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” as announced by Billboard on Sunday.
Swift has now tallied an impressive 68 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200, surpassing Presley’s 67-week record. Her journey to this record began with the release of her 2008 album “Fearless,” which held the number one position for 11 weeks between 2008 and 2009. Subsequent albums such as “Speak Now,” “Red,” “1989,” “Reputation,” “Lover,” “Folklore,” “Evermore,” and “Midnights” contributed an additional 47 weeks to her total.
Her re-recorded albums, including “Fearless (Taylor’s Version),” “Red (Taylor’s Version),” “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” and “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” have further solidified her iconic status in the music industry, adding 10 more number one spots on the Billboard 200.
While Swift has now surpassed Presley as a solo artist, she still trails The Beatles, who hold the record with 132 weeks at number one across their 19 albums from 1964 to 2001.
2023 has been a remarkable year for Swift, highlighted by the success of her Eras Tour, which began in Arizona in March. The tour included 35 shows, concluding in August in Los Angeles. Additionally, the “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” film released in October achieved significant box office success, grossing $92.8 million in the US.
