Syrian Rebels Seize Key Border Crossing with Jordan

Syrian opposition sources have reported that insurgents have taken control of a key border crossing with Jordan, forcing Syrian authorities to withdraw from the area.

Following this development, Jordan’s Interior Minister al-Frayeh announced the closure of the Naseeb border crossing due to the security situation on the Syrian side.

Videos shared by opposition activists online showed individuals storming the crossing, which had previously been under rebel control until it was retaken by government forces in 2018.

Ahmad al-Masalmeh, an opposition activist based in France who reports on events in southern Syria, told The Associated Press that local armed groups had seized not only the Naseeb crossing but also several other locations in Daraa province, where the anti-Assad uprising began in 2011. He added that Syrian forces had abandoned checkpoints in multiple areas, including the villages of Inkhil, Nawa, and Jassem.
