Pop star Taylor Swift has publicly endorsed Kamala Harris following the presidential debate on September 10. Swift shared her support via Instagram, telling her 283 million followers that she would be voting for Harris in the upcoming November 6 election.
This endorsement is seen as a significant boost to Harris’s campaign in her contest against Donald Trump. Swift wrote, “Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”
Swift also explained that she decided to make her stance clear after encountering an artificial intelligence (AI) post falsely claiming she supported Trump. She expressed concern about AI and the risks of misinformation, stating, “It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter.”
Swift encouraged her followers to do their own research and vote if they hadn’t yet registered, emphasizing, “Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make.”
Additionally, Swift took a subtle jab at Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance by signing off as “Childless Cat Lady,” a reference to Vance’s 2021 controversial remark. Vance had said in an interview that the U.S. was being run “by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable in their own lives,” a statement that drew widespread backlash from figures such as Jennifer Aniston and Oprah Winfrey after Vance was named Trump’s running mate.
The Harris-Trump debate, which is expected to be the only one this election cycle, saw both candidates exchange heated remarks. While Harris held her ground in her first presidential debate, Trump appeared more confident on issues like the economy and foreign policy, though he was fact-checked several times by ABC News moderators during the event.
