Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Delayed Again to June 2027

The eagerly awaited conclusion to Sony’s animated Spider-Verse trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, has once again had its release date pushed back. Initially slated to swing into theaters on June 4, 2027, the film is now scheduled to debut three weeks later on June 27, 2027. Directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, this third chapter continues the story of Miles Morales, following the dramatic events of its predecessor, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Timing the Web: A Strategic Summer Move

The decision to postpone the film stems from a deliberate strategy to maximize box office potential during the U.S. summer vacation period. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony hopes that releasing the movie when children are out of school will help boost turnout in domestic theaters. Additionally, summer dates tend to perform better globally, offering more favorable conditions in international markets.

This isn’t the first scheduling shuffle for the project. Originally expected to hit screens in March 2024, the film’s timeline was first disrupted by the SAG-AFTRA strike of 2023, which led to a rescheduled release in March 2025. That date was subsequently shifted to 2027, and now slightly adjusted again to late June.

A Franchise That Redefined Animation and Superheroes

Since its inception, the Spider-Verse series has reimagined what superhero animation can be, blending vivid, stylized visuals with emotionally resonant storytelling. The franchise has become a powerhouse for Sony, raking in over $1 billion globally while earning praise from critics and audiences alike.

The saga centers on Miles Morales, a Brooklyn teenager who steps into the role of Spider-Man after the death of his universe’s Peter Parker. The original film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, won an Academy Award and introduced audiences to a multiverse teeming with alternate Spider-heroes. The sequel, Across the Spider-Verse, expanded this universe even further, culminating in a gripping cliffhanger that left fans craving resolution.

That second installment revealed a multiverse where countless versions of Spider-Man coexist—each with their own challenges, beliefs, and moral codes. Miles, now separated from his allies, finds himself trapped in a parallel dimension, facing a darker version of himself who has become an antagonist.

What’s Next for Miles Morales?

At CinemaCon, writer and producer Phil Lord offered a glimpse into what’s to come. The third film, he revealed, will focus on Miles being targeted by other Spider-Variants for his role in disrupting the multiversal timeline. This sets the stage for an emotionally and visually explosive finale, as Miles must not only survive the hunt but also find a way to restore balance across realities.

With the release now rescheduled for June 27, 2027, fans will have to hold on a bit longer to see how Miles’ journey concludes. But if the series’ past track record is any indication, Beyond the Spider-Verse is poised to deliver a powerful and visually breathtaking send-off worthy of its web-slinging hero.
