On Saturday, Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry issued a stern warning about the potential grave consequences of any aggressive actions towards Rafah, located in the southern Gaza Strip. The statement underscored the kingdom’s absolute disapproval and condemnation of the forced removal of residents, advocating strongly for an immediate halt to hostilities.
This announcement comes in the context of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructing the nation’s forces to prepare for the evacuation of Rafah’s population, estimated at 1.3 million individuals. Many of these residents have been displaced previously and report having no alternative places for refuge.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, the Saudi foreign ministry emphasized that any attack on Rafah would breach international law. It stressed the urgency of calling a UN Security Council meeting to prevent Israel from precipitating a humanitarian crisis.
