Salam in Doha: Lebanon Stability Depends on Israeli Withdrawal

Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam held a diplomatic meeting in Doha on Tuesday with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister of Qatar, focusing on Lebanon’s internal stability and regional tensions. The discussions underscored Lebanon’s ongoing efforts to reinforce state authority and highlighted concerns over unresolved territorial disputes with Israel.

Speaking at a joint press briefing, Prime Minister Salam emphasized that lasting peace in Lebanon remains contingent on Israel’s withdrawal from all areas it continues to occupy. He pointed specifically to five contested points along the border as central to achieving full Lebanese sovereignty. The Lebanese premier reiterated that state institutions must maintain control across all national territory as a condition for long-term internal stability.

Salam noted that recent diplomatic engagement had played a key role in preventing Lebanon from becoming entangled in the broader regional conflict that escalated earlier in the month. He expressed relief that the country avoided direct involvement in renewed hostilities and reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to maintaining its neutrality while working to de-escalate tensions along its southern border.
