Liverpool FC’s star Egyptian player Mohamed Salah chose not to discuss his sideline disagreement with manager Jurgen Klopp following a critical 2-2 draw with West Ham on Saturday, April 27. The draw came as a blow to Liverpool’s hopes of securing the Premier League title in what is Klopp’s final season as manager.
The incident occurred after Salah, who began the game on the bench, was substituted into the match with only 13 minutes remaining. The tension between him and Klopp escalated, prompting teammates Darwin Núñez and Joe Gomez to intervene and defuse the situation.
When approached by journalists after the game, Salah cryptically remarked, “There is going to be fire today if I speak.” Klopp, when questioned about the dispute, stated that the matter was discussed and resolved in the locker room, and he considered it closed.
With the season nearing its end, Liverpool is currently third in the league standings with 75 points from 35 games, trailing behind their title rivals Arsenal and Manchester City. Arsenal leads with 77 points from 34 games, while City is close behind with 76 points from 33 games. Both teams had matches scheduled for the following day, which could potentially increase their lead over Liverpool.
Arsenal was set to face Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester City was preparing for a match against Nottingham Forest on what was the 35th matchday of the 38-game season.
Liverpool’s next fixture is against Tottenham Hotspur on May 5. By then, Arsenal could potentially extend their lead to eight points ahead of Liverpool, and Manchester City might increase their advantage to seven points, having played one game fewer than Liverpool.
