PSG vs PSV Prediction: 22/10/2024

Paris Saint-Germain visited Emirates Stadium on matchday two, hoping to build on their 1-0 victory over Girona in their opening game. However, things didn’t go as planned, as PSG suffered a late 2-0 defeat to Arsenal, with goalkeeper Donnarumma making two costly mistakes.

Throughout the match, the Parisians appeared inferior to their London opponents and were never quite able to compete on equal footing. This loss marked PSG’s first defeat in any competition this season, as they remain undefeated in their domestic league. Prior to the international break, PSG faced Nice and hosted Strasbourg, hoping to bounce back.

On the other hand, PSV Eindhoven, who clinched the Dutch title with 91 points last season, started their new domestic campaign impressively, winning all seven of their first league matches. They continued their strong form with matches against Sparta Rotterdam and Alkmaar before the break.

However, their Champions League campaign hasn’t been as successful. PSV suffered a 3-1 defeat to Juventus in their opening game, followed by a 1-1 draw against Sporting Lisbon in their second match.

Ousmane Dembélé, who was mysteriously left out of the squad for the Arsenal match, has since rejoined the team and is expected to play a key role in getting PSG back on track. Unfortunately, Goncalo Ramos remains sidelined with an injury, along with defenders Lucas Hernandez and Presnel Kimpembe.

The midfield, including Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz, Joao Neves, and Warren Zaire-Emery, struggled to perform against Arsenal. Defensively, while Nuno Mendes was a bright spot offensively, he struggled to contain Arsenal’s Saka on the other end. Barcola, who has scored six goals in six Ligue 1 matches, is also expected to be a crucial player for PSG.

For PSV, full-back Sergiño Dest has been absent for a few weeks and is unlikely to feature in this game, along with young rotational player Fode Fofana, key winger Hirving Lozano (4 goals in 4 Eredivisie games), midfielder Joey Veerman (1 goal and 5 assists in 7 Eredivisie matches), and defender Fredrik Oppegard.

PSV will rely on veteran striker Luuk de Jong (3 goals, 4 assists in the Eredivisie) and talented attackers like Noa Lang, Ismael Saibari, Belgian international Johan Bakayoko (2 Eredivisie goals), as well as Schouten and Malik Tillman, who have both impressed in the league.

Prediction

PSV, having lost the first leg of this encounter, will need to go on the offensive. Notably, 11 of their last 13 away matches in all competitions have seen at least two goals. PSG’s recent home games have also been high-scoring, with 16 of their last 20 matches featuring over 2.5 goals. A similar outcome is expected in this match.

Final Prediction: PSG 1-2 PSV
