Over 200,000 individuals have crossed from Lebanon into Syria, fleeing the Israeli bombardments, according to Filippo Grandi, the United Nations’ High Commissioner for Refugees. This number includes both Lebanese and Syrians who had been residing in Lebanon. Grandi highlighted that humanitarian efforts to aid these displaced persons are underway at border checkpoints, coordinated by the UN and organizations like the Syrian Red Crescent.
In the broader scope of the crisis, Lebanese officials report that the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has displaced over 1.2 million people within Lebanon itself, forcing many to live in precarious conditions on the streets. Additionally, Giacomo Lapo Baldini, Lebanon’s country director for Relief International, recently shared with CNN that the destruction has severely impacted access to clean water, as Israeli strikes have damaged water facilities.
