One Killed in Gunmen Attack on Istanbul Church

In a recent incident in Istanbul, Turkey, a person was killed during an assault on a church in the Sarıyer district. The attack, involving two masked gunmen, was reported by Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya in a statement on X, previously known as Twitter.

The attack took place in the Büyükdere neighborhood of Sarıyer around 11:40 am local time (3:40 am ET) during a Sunday service at the Santa Maria Church, as detailed by Yerlikaya.

In response to this violent incident, a comprehensive investigation has been initiated, with efforts underway to locate and apprehend the two assailants. Minister Yerlikaya strongly denounced the heinous nature of the assault.

The reason behind this attack remains unclear at this point.

Additionally, Turkey’s Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc expressed his denunciation of the attack. To further the investigation, the Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor and two additional public prosecutors have been tasked with the case.

Minister Tunc assured that the search for the suspects is ongoing and the investigation is being conducted thoroughly and from multiple angles.
